Most textbooks do not provide very thorough descriptions for religions. This is probably because every religion is extremely complex. You could spend a lifetime studying just one religion and still not know all of the answers to questions people might have about the faith.
BBC-Religions is an excellent tool for studying major world religions. Each religion includes an overview with information such as holy days, beliefs and history. You can even learn about each religion’s view on controversial issues such as abortion or capital punishment.
- Use this website as a substitute for the textbook to learn about major world religions. As you read through the information, provide opportunities for students to research more information about some of the topics under each religion.
- Assign each student a religion to research using the information on the website. Each student can present the information in order to teach the class about several different religions.
